• Case Study: Alliance Theatre (2014)

    By: Trent Anderson,

This case study describes the Alliance’s first-ever capital campaign in 2014, which would involve a full renovation of the theater’s facilities and more than double its endowment, in time for the Alliance’s 50th anniversary season in 2018. The company would be displaced for one year for the demolition and re-construction of the theater. Susan V. Booth, the artistic director, had the innovative idea of producing the offsite season in 12 disparate venues, spread throughout the city. Executing such a season would be taxing for both her staff and audiences, but she recognized an opportunity for community engagement that she felt she could not ignore. Booth was faced with the task of motivating her staff, her board, and the parent institution’s board.
