  • Tool: What Managing Directors Need to Know (2008)

By: Arthur Nacht, MFA '06 and Principal of Nacht Theatre Consulting

Most managing directors of nonprofit theatres have too much data but simultaneously not enough useful information for monitoring current performance against goals, especially strategic goals. This paper describes one theatre’s solution to this data/information paradox, a report called a Key Data Report. The report connects strategy, management information and making theatre. It includes selectively chosen and carefully defined measures of artistic activity, community engagement, education programs, contributed income, earned income, financial condition and operating results.
